Day 16, York

On our last Saturday in the UK, we drove up to York and I'd have to say that it was one of my favorite places in all of England. I loved the quaintness of it and the shopping and the flowers and, well, all of it! The weather was absolutely perfect that day, which also helped to make it seem all the more enchanting of a place.

We ate at many a pub while in England. I never knew why they had such strange names until Scott explained that many of these pubs have had their names for several hundred years. When the majority of people were illiterate, they would know the specific pub by the picture that hung over the door - and the description of the picture usually became that pub's name, if it wasn't already.
In the Shambles ... a place that used to have many a butcher who would slaughter their animal on the street, and the blood would run down the little valley/trough that the street had. Nice, huh?

We like to be silly and strange sometimes. Ok, how about all the time :)

We ate at Betty's -- a famous tea shop that had AMAZING desserts

The York Cathedral
Father-in-law and daughter-in-law taking a breather
Cool streets! Jackie and I split off from the guys for a bit so we could FINALLY do some shopping. We found a tea cup for my collection and stopped in many charity shops to do so. It was fun to look in all the quaint little shops with my shopping buddy. I think we both could've done that all day long, but alas, the men would've killed us.
Another cool pub sign

Part of the Roman wall built .... uhh, a long time ago :)
The ruins of an old church

Another wonderful pub sign - it reads, The Codfather - HA!
Statue of Constantine - I believe he was proclaimed the emperor of Rome while in York
Grandma bought B his first baseball cap - it was a sunny day and we were concerned about his little head getting sunburnt in the carrier!
He approves of the acquisition!
Such cool, funky old buildings. When you see them, makes you even wonder how they are still standing upright!
Venturing through the Shambles again, at the end of the day
A fortress
