Perfect Meal

While shopping at Kroger this weekend (for some MUCH NEEDED groceries) I saw that Kroger had a huge bin of sweet corn for sale and people were gathered all around it, shucking their corn right there and then buying large quantities of it. Now, I'm no genius, but to me, that says that perhaps that might be some right, mighty-fine, good-tasting sweet corn.

So, I got us 4 ears of corn. Shucked it right there, and I will add that my husband was impressed at how quickly I shucked those ears of corn. You know, I didn't grow up in the Heartland of the Midwest for nothing!

(I wonder how many times I can use the word "shucked" in this post -- such a fun word to say!!)

Last night, I fixed 2 of the said 4 ears of corn. And I seriously almost cried. That was some excellent sweet corn. I don't think I've had such good corn in a very long time.

My big dilemma now is to figure out how I can incorporate sweet corn into every meal I make this week. Biscuits and gravy for dinner? I think some corn sounds perfect with that. Pizza? Sure, why not some sweet corn. (It is a staple for pizzas sold at Pizza Hut in China, so maybe I'll start a trend here!)

But, really, I'm not lying just a teensy bit ..... it was good sweet corn.

No, Megan! Don't do it! You're an American! Don't put corn on that pizza!

Mary: Do they serve corn in a cup at your local McDonald's as a "healthy" alternative to french fries?

"Sure, I'll take a side of corn with that double-cheeseburger, thank you very much!!"

Are you comparing Texas sweet corn to "Hoosier" sweet corn? No contest.........G Ma S

Sounds like someone misses Indiana! :)

So, get this. I thought everyone (especially in the Midwest) knew the word "shuck." But this summer, one of my friends talked about "peeling" corn! A born and raised Ohioan at that! But, I am discovering that corn is not nearly so pervasive in Ohio culture as it is in Indiana, Illinois, and Iowa.

I'm very interested in this corn you speak of. To almost cry while eating it speaks volumes for this sweet corn! Which Kroger did you go to??

Shuck is SUCH a fun word. Shuck shuck shuck. It looks funny if you stare at it for awhile.
