Easter Mayhem

Easter 2005 has come and gone. There was no new spring dress for this girl. I dunno. It just seemed pointless to buy something new and look cute when A) it was only 27 degrees outside and B) not really anyone to look cute for. :) But, we had a good day overall, inspite of the cold temperatures. Seriously. It was downright frigid. I really think some of the raindrops that fell might've been tiny pieces of ice. It was so cold! Here are 2 main highlights of the day, which basically involved easter egg hunt(s):

1. Easter Egg Hunt, Round 1
We 3 kids were instructed to be ready about 20 minutes earlier than normal for a "surprise". We haven't had easter baskets in a couple of years so I thought they were going to revive the tradition of hiding our baskets and making us find them. Usually they are in places like the oven, or the dryer, behind the ski gloves, in the showers .... fun places like that. This year was a little different. Instead, Mom and Dad hid the eggs and we had to go run all over the basement trying to fill our baskets up with them. It was so fun! Each one of us had our own color of eggs and then there were the "free-for-all" eggs hidden around the basement. There was no candy involved, or barely any. Instead the eggs were filled with dollar bills and McD's coupons! Sweet action!! Oh. And one Starbucks gift card. I was stoked. And I think I got more than Shan or Col so that made me happy. I like winning. :)

2. Easter Egg Hunt, Round 2 (sorta)
Since we had such inclement weather, Grandma decided that we'd play a game this year in order to earn our eggs. Once again, no candy in the eggs -- just money -- and a lot of it at that. It took the grandkids (plus a few adults trying to help -- Em getting help from her dad and me using the assistance of Grandpa and Aunt B) almost 4 hours to complete the "hunt". Wow. 4 hours equals all afternoon and probably just one NCAA tourney game. :)

But, basically there was a gigantic basket of eggs, filled with $1 and $5 bills. We played some card game that was really hard to figure out at first cuz all the boys kept shouting out the rules and I was really confused, so that's why I needed help [Thank you very much, Colin Jeffrey]. But, after each round, the winners would choose an egg and hopefully choose an egg with a $5 bill rather than an $1 bill. I made out with $20. Not bad for someone that started out so confused. The funniest part was the fact that Shannon made $27. Why is this funny, you might ask? Well, Shannon didn't even know that we were planning a game -- she slept all afternoon cuz she was sick. And Grandma felt sorry for her so she played for her instead. Hmm ..... not quite sure about that all. :) Anyhoo, it was a wild and crazy game -- so much shouting and yelling and cut-throatedness going on. You'd think my family was competitive or something. Who knows.

But, we made good on a nasty day and still got in some "egg hunting" -- trying to see through the eggs to see if the one you'd picked was a "good" one or not. I really would love to know if there are any other families out there that are as wacky as ours. I would probably be safe to assume that we are one of a kind. I kinda like it that way.

I think your assumption is a pretty safe one. And I like it that way, too. :)

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's a safe bet to say that our family is the only one who would 'gamble' on Easter Sunday. HA!
