A First for the Baby

Bennett has been showing many signs recently that he's ready to graduate from exclusively breastfed to begin taking solids. [sigh]

My baby is already growing up WAY TOO FAST!!!!

I had wanted to hold out until the 6 month mark, even though I'd been given the o-k from the pedi if I wanted to start him on solids. I thought I was going to make it, but he's been waking early from naps, and also in the morning and seeming to get hungrier sooner than normal. He's been watching us eat and starting to grab for stuff when we are eating our food. In the past few days, I've let him sample little bits of things that I've either been making or eating -- licking my bread, bananas, couscous, and such. He's LOVED it. Liked sucked my finger dry.

But, I just didn't want him to start yet. It's hard letting go of control and moving on to a new stage so soon! For a girl who hates change, having a baby sure helps one to get over that hang up very quickly -- they are constantly changing!!!

Well, after getting some much needed advice from my sweet momma (sometimes a girl just needs to hear her mom say, "It's time"), we decided to start B on rice cereal last night.

It was a success!!! Neither one of us cried. There were smiles all around.

So, I guess, here goes nothing.

Bring on the change.
