Last fall, I felt like I was actually a human being again and decided I was going to just do it and make the stupid mobile! I had gotten some ideas from others I had seen on etsy but figured I could spend a fraction of the cost of the ones being sold and create a mobile myself. I wanted something fairly gender neutral, something whimsical, cute but not cute-cute, and would go well with the sparse decorations I already had in the nursery. My mom had made for me the crib skirt, curtains and pillows for my rocker out of a brown toile. And that was about all the decorations I had going on in there.
So, back to the mobile. I printed off the ideas from etsy, and then got down one evening when Kc was gone, and began sketching out my pattern. In all honesty, I think I'm most proud of these sketches! I can't draw to save my life. Seriously. And somehow, I was able to sketch these babies out and I've never been so pleased!
It seemed as if this mobile was finally going to get made, only 6 months after Bennett was born! I went out and bought quilt scraps and felt and all the other necessary sewing supplies I was going to need and got started.
I cut out one owl, started sewing it together, and then my self-doubt, ultra-hyped-insecurities, and perfectionist tendencies kicked in and I quit. I questioned my whole entire project ("This looks RIDICULOUS! I have NO idea what I'm doing. It's going to look STUPID!") and refused to pick it back up. Lame, I know.
But, I gave myself an excuse and began working on an advent calendar for my sister, Shannon, trying to get it finished before Thanksgiving. So, naturally, I didn't have time to work on the mobile.
I decided to take the pieces with me at Christmas and see if I could get some encouragement and help from my super creative mom and sister. They gave me the boost that I needed to finish and I came back to Texas ready to go.
[sigh] And I didn't do. Have we talked about the procrastination yet??
Kc kept asking me when I was going to either finish the mobile or put away all the supplies and that was also the needed kick in the pants to get it done, especially since Bennett was now a year old and not needing a baby mobile over his crib. :)
Well, I'm pleased to say that I FINALLY finished the mobile.
Here is the completed mobile!!
I'm fairly pleased with the way it turned out. Of course, I think it could be better but honestly, I don't know what to do differently. I'm just proud of myself for thinking outside of the box, for attempting to be crafty without directions and for finishing it before Bennett turned 5.
There are supplies and plans to make his name for the wall - we'll see how quickly I can get that done.

THAT IS AMAZING! So adorable and I wish I could do something like that...(I can barely sew buttons and my stick figures need help) but way to go!
