After 5 collected visits to the Texas DMV, Kc and I are officially Texas residents.
That's right. It took us 5 separate trips to try to get our licenses. Oh. My. Gosh.
My friend, Jen, had told me about the horrors of getting new plates and licenses in Texas and even had her own share of frustrations but I thought we'd be different and that things would be smoother for us. How wrong I was.
I went back in January to finally get my drivers license and change over my name. I was flying and thought that the ticket had been purchased under "Megan Myers" and figured it would be a hassle to explain about the name change. So, I go, and here in Texas, when you apply for a license, first of all, they make you hand over your current license. And then, instead of creating a new one on the spot, they give you this oh-so-not-official-looking piece of paper, which acts as a "license". Whatever. The lady told me that if I didn't receive my new license in 10 weeks, to give them a call. I can't believe they make you go without a photo ID for that extent of time. Anyways, I return back to Texas, anticipating the arrival of my license. Instead, I get a notice informing me that it can't be processed and I have to come back to fix it. Find out the picture didn't take or something so I had to get my picture taken again. Ugh. Was NOT planning on that when I went in for my 2nd trip. Poor me.
Kc decides it's his turn. He has his folks mail him his SS card so he can get it done. First attempt fails because he doesn't have enough id with him. Second attempt fails because the insurance card was 2 weeks past date and we hadn't thought to print off a new one. Third attempt he's successful, minus his trying to sweet talk the grouchy lady in letting him keep his PA license. He hasn't gotten his new one yet and it only took about 2 weeks for mine to arrive.
So, we are both Texas citizens (and I mean that in every sense of the word!) and hopefully will be able to vote in the March 4 primaries. That was really the big push for us to get it done. We were both fairly sentimental about surrendering our former licenses from our home states. :(

That is sure a record! BMV's are just the worst! Although, I must admit, Brownsburg seems to be trying to correct the record. 5 trips is pretty bad!
Citizens of TX and the US, eh? Way to go! Or should I say, yeehaw? ;-) I have to admit that when I finally broke down and got my CA drivers license all switched over from VA I stooped to subterfuge and told them I'd left it at home. They said to bring it in the next time I came in, haha, right like I stop by the DMV for fun?! I also said that I had to return my license plates myself (I really did have the forms) but have no intention of doing so. I liked my personalized plates! Not sure why all that worked but it did...I wonder if I need to confess all that as a sin.
AND I STILL DON'T HAVE MY DRIVER'S LICENSE!!!!!!
I hate Texas DMV. One of these days I will get up the courage to go again and redo everything.
For now I am driving the speed limit and making sure I don't break any laws so I don't get pulled over and have to turn over my EXPIRED Indiana driver's license.
Wow, I will never complain about the Ohio BMV. I thought it was annoying to drive around to the different places to get plates, testing, and registration, but I had Ohio plates long before I changed my license. Yeah, I got Ohio plates with my Illinois license - figure that one out! When I finally got a new license, they took my old one (sniff), but I only had to wait like 15 minutes for my new one.
I think it's clear what this means: you should move to Ohio. :)
ummm... don't even get me started. I was in the Danville office about 100 times (okay, only 7), and I now have a DL with my maiden name on it. Don't ask.
I think we need to see pictures of New Mexico!
Plus everytime i see this post, it puts me in a bad mood. :) Next week...next week I am going to venture back to the terrible place.
